Sport, exercise, and physical activity are part of most cultures and are beneficial for both health and social aspects of life. Both access and equity affect participation in physical activities. Sports are commonly associated with many different generalisations as a result of stereotyping of gender, particular traits, and physical aspects of the sport. This can create societies or cultures which discriminate against the ideal body image of an individual, gender, and physical ability. Dance is often seen as a feminine activity with key physical attributes in mind, which therefore negatively affects an individual's access and equity to dance.
This presentation aims to evaluate the individual level of Figueroa's framework, with a focus on self-concept, self-esteem, body-image, and Maslow's hierarchy of needs. In addition, this presentation will evaluate the likelihood of myself taking up dance once leaving Grace Lutheran College.
I am likely to participate in dance after leaving Grace Lutheran College. This is because of influences regarding the individual level of Figueroa's framework, which concerns self-concept, self-esteem,body image, and Maslow's hierarchy of needs. As a result of my own positive self-concept, I am likely to take up dance in the future, unlike somebody with negative self-concept.
